Center for Membrane Biology

Welcome to the Center for Membrane Biology at the University of Virginia! This Center comprises faculty from five Departments across three Schools of the University of Virginia. The assembled faculty share common research and teaching interests to achieve a deeper understanding of how biological membranes function as barriers of individual cells, organisms, and organelles. Since biological membranes are ubiquitous in cells, communication across them is central to our understanding of life. Many diseases are rooted in disorders of membrane functions. It is the goal of the researchers of this Center to discover and teach to students membrane-based biological processes and to find cures for membrane-associated diseases.
